Remember Google Earth and all of its Googly awesomeness? Remember how much of a pain it was that you had to have a desktop and download software to use it? Well.....wait no more! Google recently released the web version of Google Earth meaning you can use it without having to download software and thus access it on Chromebooks. Google Earth, if you aren't familiar with it, allows you to explore the earth (and oceans) in 3D!
This updated web version of Google Earth gives you the ability to explore Google Lit Trips on Chromebooks by uploading the KMZ or KML files! What are Lit Trips? Lit Trips are downloadable files that mark the journeys of characters from famous literature on the surface of Google Earth. Along the way, placemarks with pop-up windows contain "just in time" resources including relevant media, thought-provoking discussion starters, and links to supplementary information about "real world" references in that portion of the story. Our focus is on creating engaging and relevant literary experiences for students. What a great way to enhance novels you may be reading/exploring in your classroom. Another aspect of the new Google Earth is Voyager. Voyager allows you to explore some of the amazing wonders of the world in 3D with embedded 360 degree videos.
